Panna Cotta (奶酪)

Do you know what is Panna Cotta (奶酪 in Mandarin)? How its' texture like? Believe it or not I only discover this chilled dessert recently. I felt in love after the 1st taste :P It has texture of soft, delicate and rich creamy milky flavor! After some surfing then I realise this is an Italian dessert named Panna Cotta which means cooked cream. It is made by simmering together cream, milk and sugar. Then mix with gelatin and letting it cool until set. Sounds very easy right? Without any hesitate I know I'm going to make this :D

Panna Cotta can be eaten plain or even better with fruits, caramel or chocolate sauce. Since I have some mangoes I just purée it and serve with my 1stPanna Cotta.

Can you figure what's wrong with my chocolate portion in my Panna Cotta? Initially I plan to make two layers with chocolate portion on top. When I was about to add into the top plain cream then I realise the white portion need to be set first! Since the chocolate cream is done, I have no choice and have to add into it.

I did some swirling on top and hoping it looks presentable :P That's why end up like this.

Adapted and slightly modified from Carol
Ingredients:
5g gelatin powder
30g water
*if you prefer firmer texture do increase to 8g

200g milk
35g sugar

200g dairy whipping cream

Fruits purée of your choice

Methods:
1. Add gelatin with water inside a heat proof bowl. Leave aside for about 5 minutes (till all the liquid being absorbed).

2. Place the bowl of gelatin mixture in a pot of boiling water. Simmer indirectly and stir till all gelatin powder has dissolved. Set aside.

3. Add sugar into milk. Heat the milk till sugar dissolve. Add in gelatin mixture (from step 2) and mix well. Remove from heat and mix in dairy whipping cream. Mix well. Pour into jar for easy filling.

4. Gently pour into prepared glasses (or any container of your choice). Leave to cool and keep in fridge to chill at least 12 hours. Serve with your favorite fruits and enjoy!

I really enjoy this cold dessert. Don’t scared by the unknown name, Panna Cotta (happen to me :D). It is only cold dessert which use gelatin as thickening agent. It is simple and easy to prepare. If you have no idea what is Panna Cotta and like something creamy and rich, do consider making this dessert. You won’t regret after the 1st taste. LOL
